About Broughton Community Church
Our Church Family
If you want an informal, friendly, Bible-based church, with a flavour of the Church of England, then Broughton Community Church is for you!
Broughton is a neighbourhood in Aylesbury, between the Grand Union Canal and the Tring Road. Our church meets every Sunday in Broughton Junior School (on Broughton Avenue, opposite the Parton Road shops). Follow this link to a Map.
Opened in 1989 as a daughter church of Holy Trinity, Walton; Broughton Community Church was formed from a desire by the local people to have their own church. Hence the congregation meet in the local junior school, having outgrown the primary school.
In 2009 the Church Commissioners passed a Pastoral Measure making Broughton a Church of England parish in its own right.
Minister
We have recently appointed a new minister. Our previous Priest-in-Charge was Rev'd. Dr. Mike Butterworth. Prior to this Mike was Principal of the St Albans and Oxford Ministry Course. He is also Director of Interactive Christian Extension Studies (ICES) which is now part of Trinity College, Bristol.
Children and Young People
Broughton Church has great depth of care for the children in the congregation. Junior Church has a programme of activities which last approximately an hour, during the Sunday morning services. This is organised by a small team of leaders and helpers using Scripture Union material.
The groups are:
- Junior Church - up to Year 6
- Fridge - Years 7 to 9
They also run Summer activities and special events throughout the year.
For young people there are a number of activities including a Friday evening "Fridge". They also take part in "Impact" at Southcourt Baptist Church on the first Sunday evening of the month.
Broughton Youth Ministry
Youth Café - Wednesday evenings, 7.15pm-9pm at Broughton Junior School (term time only). 'Drop in' youth group for anyone in school years 7-13. Come along to enjoy activities, such as pool, table tennis, Wii, Rockband and crafts, as well as free food! We sometimes have trips to places like Thorpe Park or Go-Ape and twice a year there are special family evenings.
Fridge - Friday evenings, 7.30pm-9.00pm at various houses and some Sunday mornings during the service (term time only) For young people in school years 7-9 who want to have fun and to keep their faith fresh with relevant Bible studies, discussions and social activites.
Group - Sunday evenings. For young people in school years 10-13 who want to go deeper with God. On the first Sunday of the month we go to 'Impact' a youth church event run by Aylesbury Vale Youth for Christ and on the third Sunday we go to Soul Survivor in Watford. Impact meets at Southcourt Baptist Church 7-9pm.
Groups
Broughton has a range of 'home groups' which meet usually on a weekly basis to study the Bible and related books in more depth than is possible on the regular services.
All the groups have a different focus. Some meet in the evenings and one meets on Tuesday morning. In addition to this several people meet in twos and threes for prayer.
Newcomers are always welcome to any of the homegroups so if you are interested about joining one speak to the leaders about which one would suit you best.
We have run a Family Time group for those who wish to explore the issue of parenting skills.
Pastoral Care
There are a number of people who are prepared to visit anyone who is in need of someone to talk and pray with them.
Phil White co-ordinates this work so ring Phil and he will put you in touch with someone who is willing to help.
