At BCC we are delighted that church member Carl Shaw is working in full time mission at the YWAM Discipleship Training School (DTS) in Holland.

Initially Carl (above) spent six months training with YWAM undertaking the DTS programme as a student. The first three months were spent in Holland training then he flew to Africa where he spent 3 months.

During Carl's time in Africa he traveled to Durban, Jeffries Bay and Cape Town. The activities they supported included:
- Working with Aids children
- Church planting
- Speaking at Churches & Youth Groups
- Street Evangelism (Dance, Drama, clowning & painting)
Since then he has joined the staff of the YWAM base. He has been on a mission to China and led a team to Iceland on the outreach phase of their DTS programme. He is currently part of the team leading a new DTS in Holland. At the time of writing he is preparing to marry Mayke de Jong on Friday 12th December 2008 and move to Iceland early in 2009.

As one of our foreign outreach activities the church supports the ongoing work of mission in the Philippines. There are three main activities. Firstly, the YWAM base hosts Discipleship Training Scheme (DTS) teams and conducts outreach into the local squatter communities including a sponsorship scheme that pays for the children to attend school. Secondly, another YWAM centre, Nehemiah House, is an accredited Non Government Organisation (NGO) and cares for abused or abandoned girls in a family atmosphere. Thirdly, the Lifenet Children's Foundation, another NGO, aims to respond to the needs amongst street children and abandoned or orphaned young people by facilitating partnership in the body of Christ to launch and sustain effective ministry projects.
Follow-up Trip 2006
Following the Broughton Church mission visit in 2005, Chris and Helen Medley travelled to Cagayan de Oro, Mindanao, Philippines during the first two weeks of August 2006. They stayed with Ramil and Mary Rendon (see below) who made them very welcome. During their time there they visited some of the street kids who are helped by a daily feeding programme, met the girls living at Nehemiah House and visited Malaybalay City, with Nehemiah House Director Michael Casey, to see the second Nehemiah House being constructed. The girls at Nehemiah welcomed them with a beautiful worship dance (pictured below). They also visited two churches and took a roast pig to the boys jail at Tahanan. Some of the money they had taken from Broughton was used to buy an overhead projector for the community work. A real surprise was the opportunity to meet a girl they had been sponsoring and her new foster mother who had both travelled 8 hours by bus from Surigao City for the reunion.

Church Mission Trip 2005
On June 23rd 2005 a group of four people from Broughton Community Church travelled to Cagayan De Oro in The Philippines for a two and half week trip, returning on 11th July. The visit was a great blessing both to those who went and the people visited. The need is great and we had an opportunity through the contacts we made to make a real difference to the lives of these people.
Top of PageWe actively support the following Christian organisations
Youth With A Mission
YWAM is an international movement of Christians working to help make a difference in a needy world. Founded in 1960, it is now one of the largest interdenominational and international Christian ministries.
Tens of thousands of people from scores of nations are involved on a short-term basis each year. Coming from many different backgrounds and working in a wide range of situations, YWAMers are united in their desire to be part of changing people's lives for the better. They share their faith through many different kinds of practical help--from agricultural training to running medical clinics--as well as telling about the Christian beliefs that inspire their actions.
