The Shaw's

At BCC we are delighted that church members, Carl and Mayke Shaw, are working in full time mission with YWAM.

Carl and Mayke

For the last 5 years Carl and Mayke had been located in The Netherlands, working mainly with DTS programmes. These schools are six months long (3 months classes/3 months practical application).

Since early 2009 Carl and Mayke moved to Iceland with the intention of starting a YWAM centre there that would see Icelanders mobilised into world missions, and be relevent to the local comunitity through evangelism, reaching out to the poor and needy and also train Christians in the word and the importance of understanding it.

Carl and Mayke have visited the following countries on missions; China, Singapore, Iceland, Greenland, Nepal, South Africa, Sudan and many more European countries. The activities they supported included:

At the moment Carl and Mayke are especially busy learning the Icelandic language.

The Philippines

As one of our foreign outreach activities the church supports the ongoing work of mission in the Philippines. There are three main activities. Firstly, the YWAM base hosts Discipleship Training Scheme (DTS) teams and conducts outreach into the local squatter communities including a sponsorship scheme that pays for the children to attend school. Secondly, another YWAM centre, Nehemiah House, is an accredited Non Government Organisation (NGO) and cares for abused or abandoned girls in a family atmosphere. Thirdly, the Lifenet Children's Foundation, another NGO, aims to respond to the needs amongst street children and abandoned or orphaned young people by facilitating partnership in the body of Christ to launch and sustain effective ministry projects.

Follow-up Trip 2006

Following the Broughton Church mission visit in 2005, Chris and Helen Medley travelled to Cagayan de Oro, Mindanao, Philippines during the first two weeks of August 2006. They stayed with Ramil and Mary Rendon (see below) who made them very welcome. During their time there they visited some of the street kids who are helped by a daily feeding programme, met the girls living at Nehemiah House and visited Malaybalay City, with Nehemiah House Director Michael Casey, to see the second Nehemiah House being constructed. The girls at Nehemiah welcomed them with a beautiful worship dance (pictured below). They also visited two churches and took a roast pig to the boys jail at Tahanan. Some of the money they had taken from Broughton was used to buy an overhead projector for the community work. A real surprise was the opportunity to meet a girl they had been sponsoring and her new foster mother who had both travelled 8 hours by bus from Surigao City for the reunion.

Church Mission Trip 2005

The House   The Girls

On June 23rd 2005 a group of four people from Broughton Community Church travelled to Cagayan De Oro in The Philippines for a two and half week trip, returning on 11th July. The visit was a great blessing both to those who went and the people visited. The need is great and we had an opportunity through the contacts we made to make a real difference to the lives of these people.

We actively support the following Christian organisations

Youth With A Mission

YWAM is an international movement of Christians working to help make a difference in a needy world. Founded in 1960, it is now one of the largest interdenominational and international Christian ministries.

Tens of thousands of people from scores of nations are involved on a short-term basis each year. Coming from many different backgrounds and working in a wide range of situations, YWAMers are united in their desire to be part of changing people's lives for the better. They share their faith through many different kinds of practical help--from agricultural training to running medical clinics--as well as telling about the Christian beliefs that inspire their actions.
